Exhibition, 18 March-16 August 2026
Are artificial intelligence and photography complementary fields of artistic creation, or anything but? In this exhibition, artist and photographer Mathieu Bernard-Reymond, who lives and works in Lausanne, explores the interplay between the two using an unusual camera that he devised himself, in collaboration with the Swiss design studio Mouvement Studio. By fitting the camera with AI capable of altering a shot on the basis of data and words spoken as it is taken, the artist can not only take photographs; they can also ‘murmur’ images, thus creating a new relationship between the camera and the photographer, reshaping the intimate process of taking pictures and challenging the notion that AI is inevitably dehumanising. Rather than casting artificial intelligence as invisible and digital, both the device’s design and technology and the images it produces invite us to consider AI as part and parcel of the tangible history of photographic art and technique.
The exhibition is supported by the Friends of the Swiss Camera Museum, the Canton of Vaud, the Givel Foundation, the Romandy Lottery and Pro Helvetia, the Swiss Arts Council.
